As of now, I think that LinkedIN is a better way to get one's information out to future employers. The main reason is the ability to access LinkedIN. By putting one's name and profile on a social networking site rather than on an independent site, it makes it easier for the employer to find and explore that profile. That potential employer can also recruit from sites like LinkedIN, where if a potential employee only has a professional portfolio on an independent site, the employer has to go in search of someone who might be willing to entertain the idea of a new job.
